Seven CPD Videos Released by Octagon Music Hub Lead Schools
The Octagon Music Hub is delighted to announce the release of seven new teacher-led CPD videos, showcasing innovative, inclusive and impactful music education practice from across Dorset and Somerset.
Developed through the Octagon Music Hub Lead Schools Programme, the videos share practical, real-world approaches from educators working in a range of settings, including Early Years, primary, secondary and specialist provision. Together, they demonstrate how music can support wellbeing, inclusion, engagement, creativity and progression for children and young people.
The series includes:
Early Years Music for Wellbeing and Development
Led by Julia Hurley, this practical session explores how music can support emotional wellbeing, communication and social development in Early Years settings through songs, movement and imaginative play.
Inclusive Musical Approaches
Featuring Polden Bower School and Westfield Arts College, this session shares practical strategies for creating inclusive musical experiences where all learners can participate and thrive.
Using Music to Re-Engage Learners
Delivered by Ferndown Middle School, this inspiring session explores how creative music-making can build confidence, foster belonging and support young people who may be disengaging from school.
Building a Musical Ethos and Curriculum
Featuring Prince of Wales First School and Kingsmead School, this session explores how schools can create a strong musical culture through inclusive curriculum design and meaningful musical experiences.
Music Technology in KS3 Music
Nic Adams and Val Mizen share practical approaches to embedding music technology within an inclusive and engaging KS3 curriculum, supporting creativity, accessibility and progression.
Industry Links: Real-World Music Industry Pathways
This session showcases Strodelive, a student-led music and production company that connects young people with authentic industry experience and creative career pathways.
Music Education Partnerships: The Power of Collaboration
Featuring Hanna Trevorrow and Lorraine Clarke, this session explores how schools can build meaningful partnerships with music hubs, community organisations and cultural partners to create new opportunities for children and young people.
The videos form part of the Octagon Music Hub Lead Schools Teacher-Led CPD Programme, delivered in partnership with Dorset Music Service and Somerset Music, and funded by Arts Council England on behalf of the Department for Education.
