Join the Octagon Music Hub Board

Join the Octagon Music Hub Strategic Board
Octagon Music Hub is inviting expressions of interest from people who would like to join its Strategic Board, as part of an exciting period of governance renewal and development.
We work across Dorset and Somerset to support high-quality, inclusive music education and progression opportunities for children and young people. As we move into our next phase, we are refreshing the Board to ensure it is skills-based, independent and representative of the communities we serve.
About the role
The Strategic Board provides oversight, challenge and strategic direction for the Hub. It plays an important role in ensuring that:
- decisions are informed by evidence and local need
- public funding is used transparently and effectively
- children and young people remain at the heart of our work
This is a strategic role focused on governance and long-term priorities, rather than day-to-day delivery.
Who we’re looking for
We’re particularly interested in people with experience in communications and public sector financ. We’d also welcome interest from those with experience in:
- education (primary, secondary, MATs, FE or HE)
- SEND or alternative provision
- early years
- community or cultural organisations
- fundraising or income generation
- public health, wellbeing or social care
- research, evaluation or data
- communications, advocacy or public engagement
- local government or public sector leadership
You don’t need to be a musician to apply. We particularly welcome interest from people who reflect the diversity of the communities we serve, and from those who may be new to board roles but bring relevant skills and insight.
Time commitment
- Around 4–6 meetings per year
- A mix of online and in-person
- Papers shared in advance
The role is voluntary, but reasonable travel expenses can be reimbursed.
