Burwell Bash, a folk music Summer School

Burwell Bash is a folk music summer school based in Cambridge providing high quality traditional music teaching for children and adults from all over the UK and the world. ‘We accept applications from anyone aged 14 or over, in the instruments flute, tin whistle, fiddle/violin, guitar and D/G melodeon and provide instrument specific and ensemble tuition. Our tutors, who remain consistent each year, have excellent reputations throughout the folk world and are highly sought after.

We are keen to support any young people we can and have had multiple success stories of young people who have gone on to study music, including the folk degree. We count many current young folk artists within our alumni, including the Reheingan’s Sisters, Anna Hughes and Jon Doran.

Each year, we guarantee 10 spaces for young people and offer three community-funded bursaries, including one through the East Anglian Traditional Music Trust. For our 2026 program, we still have a bursary available and eight open spaces: four for fiddle and four for melodeon.

If you know of any young people or organisations who would benefit from this opportunity, please encourage them to apply or contact us for more information.’
