Access to an instrument can make a real difference to a child or young person’s ability to take part in music-making. Across Somerset and Dorset, instrument hire schemes help remove barriers by making instruments available at affordable rates, with additional support for families who may need it.

Octagon Music Hub does not hire instruments directly. Instead, we work with local music services and partners to support access to instruments and equipment across the region.

Details of instrument hire arrangements vary between Somerset and Dorset. Information about what is available locally, how to apply and any financial support can be found below.

Additional support

In some cases, additional instruments and music technology may also be available through schools, community organisations or targeted inclusion programmes supported by the Octagon Music Hub and its partners.

If you are unsure which option is most appropriate, your school, local music service or education setting will be able to offer guidance and signposting.
