Royal Northern College of Music – Conducting in Practice for educators and developing conductors

The RNCM operates an extremely popular programme of external conducting courses, which are open to all and attract applicants from all over the world.
New for 2026/27
Conducting in Practice, for educators and developing conductors
Previously our Music Educators Conducting Course, we have re-launched this
programme to reflect the wide range of applicants it attracts. This course is aimed at
those working in music education, or training to do so, and is also suitable for those
looking for a solid technical grounding who may not yet have sufficient experience for our
masterclass series.
There are three workshops in October, February, and May, giving the opportunity for
structured growth. We begin with Derbyshire County Wind Band, one of the leading youth
wind bands in the UK. In February we explore specifics of working with strings, winds, and
brass with small ensembles of RNCM students. The May workshop is with orchestras and
ensembles from Junior RNCM. Use is made of our ConductIT online resource and video
review of the participants conducting activity takes place during the course.

Cost: £675
Closing date: open until all places filled, early application is encouraged
