Free KS2 Livestream: Explore the Orchestra – Sing Out!

Free KS2 Livestream: Explore the Orchestra – Sing Out!

Schools across Somerset and Dorset are invited to take part in a free, interactive livestream concert from the BSO.

Explore the Orchestra: Sing Out! will take place on Wednesday 20 May from 1:30–2:45pm and is designed especially for Key Stage 2 pupils.

Presented by award-winning composer James Redwood and featuring mezzo-soprano Felicity Buckland this year’s concert focuses on the power of the voice. Pupils will explore how singers and orchestras work together to tell stories across opera, theatre and contemporary music.

The session will:

  • Introduce the families of the orchestra in an accessible way
  • Showcase music from a range of genres
  • Include participatory elements, allowing pupils to sing and perform along with the orchestra

Specially composed pieces, developed with schools in Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole in partnership with SoundStorm, will give pupils the opportunity to actively take part and use their voices alongside professional musicians.

To support classroom engagement, a range of online learning resources is available to help teachers prepare students ahead of the concert.

This is a fantastic opportunity to experience a live orchestral performance and inspire young people through music.
