SUMMARY:Mid-Somerset Musical Spectacular 2027
DESCRIPTION:Somerset Music in Partnership with the Lions Rotary club are excited to be organising the Mid-Somerset Spectacular at Strode Theatre. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nMonday 7th June\, Tuesday 8th June & Thursday 10th June – 7pm. \n\n\n\nPupils from schools\, music clubs and drama groups in Mid Somerset will showcase their musical talents over three performances. Each evening will be unique\, featuring a different cast with a wide variety of skill and talent on show. \n\n\n\nThis series of concerts has presented many local youngsters with their first opportunity to perform on the big stage; and this year will be no exception. \n\n\n\nProceeds from the concerts will go to Somerset Music and other children’s charities. \n\n\n\nTickets: Adults £9.00\, Concessions £7.00\, Children £3.00 \n\n\n\nInformation on how to book tickets TBC

DESCRIPTION:Every year on 21 June\, people around the world come together to celebrate music through Make Music Day. \n\n\n\nIt’s a chance for everyone to get involved – whether you’re an experienced musician\, picking up an instrument for the first time\, singing with friends or simply listening to the music you love. \n\n\n\nWhat is Make Music Day?\n\n\n\nMake Music Day began in France in 1982 as Fête de la Musique\, with a simple idea: encourage people to make music and bring live music into public spaces for everyone to enjoy. Since then\, it has grown into an international celebration involving musicians and communities around the world. At its heart is the idea that music is for everyone. \n\n\n\nHow can you get involved?\n\n\n\nYou don’t need to organise a huge concert to take part. Schools\, music groups\, families and individuals can celebrate in all sorts of ways. \n\n\n\nYou could: \n\n\n\n\nperform a piece of music at school or in your community;\n\n\n\nbring pupils together for a whole-school sing;\n\n\n\ntry an instrument you’ve never played before;\n\n\n\nwrite or create your own music;\n\n\n\nput on an informal lunchtime performance;\n\n\n\nshare music with friends or family;\n\n\n\ndiscover an artist or style of music that’s new to you; or\n\n\n\nsimply make time to play\, sing or listen.\n\n\n\n\nMaking music across Dorset and Somerset\n\n\n\nAcross Dorset and Somerset\, thousands of children and young people make music every week – in classrooms\, lessons\, ensembles\, community groups and at home. Make Music Day is a great opportunity to celebrate that activity\, but also to invite someone new to join in. \n\n\n\nAt Octagon Music Hub\, we want every child and young person to have opportunities to experience music\, make music and find ways to continue their musical journey\, whatever their starting point. So\, this Make Music Day\, why not try something musical? What will you make\, play\, sing or listen to on 21 June?

DESCRIPTION:This International Women’s Day\, Octagon Music Hub is celebrating women in music and music education – from the teachers\, tutors\, community musicians and music leaders inspiring children and young people every day\, to the composers\, performers\, conductors\, songwriters\, producers and industry professionals shaping music around the world. \n\n\n\nAcross Dorset and Somerset\, women play an extraordinary role in helping children and young people discover music\, develop their talents and imagine where music might take them. \n\n\n\nInternational Women’s Day is an opportunity to celebrate their contribution – and to help the next generation discover the many different women\, careers and creative pathways that make up the world of music. \n\n\n\nCelebrate women in music\n\n\n\nSchools\, music organisations and educators could use the day to: \n\n\n\n\ncelebrate a female music teacher\, tutor or practitioner who has inspired young people;\n\n\n\ndiscover women composers and musicians from different periods\, cultures and musical traditions;\n\n\n\nexplore the work of female songwriters\, producers\, engineers and other music-industry professionals;\n\n\n\nintroduce young people to the breadth of careers available in music;\n\n\n\ninvite a local female musician or music professional to share her experience; or\n\n\n\nask pupils to nominate a woman in music who inspires them and tell others why.\n\n\n\n\nHelp us celebrate\n\n\n\nWe’d love to hear about the women making a difference through music education across Dorset and Somerset. \n\n\n\nWhether it’s a classroom teacher\, instrumental tutor\, ensemble leader\, community musician or someone working behind the scenes\, International Women’s Day is a chance to recognise the people who inspire others through music. \n\n\n\nSave the date – Monday 8 March 2027.
